Week 3

Hola.   This week went by much faster than the first two weeks, but it still feel like I have a while (3 weeks to go). My full transition to all Spanish classes started this week and oh boy. My Spanish teacher are very nice but they are from and live in Mexico so they pretty much only speak Spanish. I can understand them about 50 percent of the time but when it comes to speaking it I can say a simple prayer, simple testimony and that’s literally it.  Me ‘n my companion have been reading a chapter of the Book of Mormon in Spanish everyday so I think our pronunciation and accent is getting much better but the problem is I have no idea what I’m reading.  Other than that stuff I’ve started to really like my district and I’m glad I have three weeks left with them and even though Spanish is hard, this week went by much faster than the first 2.  Another thing I have to do today is a TRC lesson with someone in Mexico. I should’ve probably written this letter ...

Week 2!

Hello again. I can’t believe it’s only the second week. The days have been super long. It feels like I’m trudging along in a 2008 Jeep Compass with engine problems and I wish it felt like I was in a Ferrari or something. HOWEVER, just because it’s felt long doesn’t mean it’s bad.   I’ve grown to really like my district a lot (and now it’s only elders because the one Hermana transferred to another district) I also like the classes for the most part. I do get bored from time to time (a lot) but overall they’re really good. We haven’t transitioned to full time Spanish yet and so we only have an hour of Spanish a day. And I’m not great at it. I can say a simple prayer and that’s about it. It’s quite comical when me and my companion try to read the Book of Mormon because we have no idea how half of the scripture words are pronounced.  The rest of the day is filled with 6 hours of class 2 hours of personal/companion study (total). Another thing that me and my companion did was TR...

First Mission Letter

Hello everyone, I suppose I should've said ¨Hola todos¨ but after a few days in the MTC we had just a single one hour Spanish class and it was extremely basic stuff. The program I'm in at the MTC is called the "pilot program" and what that is, is basically only english (with an hour long Spanish class everyday) for the first two weeks, and then the last 4 weeks are all in Spanish. I think that is going to be very hard to adjust to, but it seems like this new program has worked for a few missionaries—so we'll see.  My district has 11 missionaries in it with 10 elders and only 1 sister. The sister is just in a trio with 2 elders which is something I've never heard of before. There are also 2 elders in my district going to Mexico City North with me. My companion, Elder Howe, is pretty nice, and he knows a lot more Spanish just coming into the MTC than I do, so when we really start practicing Spanish, that will be very helpful.  My P-Day is Saturday and my only...
