First Mission Letter
Hello everyone,
I suppose I should've said ¨Hola todos¨ but after a few days in the MTC we had just a single one hour Spanish class and it was extremely basic stuff. The program I'm in at the MTC is called the "pilot program" and what that is, is basically only english (with an hour long Spanish class everyday) for the first two weeks, and then the last 4 weeks are all in Spanish. I think that is going to be very hard to adjust to, but it seems like this new program has worked for a few missionaries—so we'll see.
My district has 11 missionaries in it with 10 elders and only 1 sister. The sister is just in a trio with 2 elders which is something I've never heard of before. There are also 2 elders in my district going to Mexico City North with me. My companion, Elder Howe, is pretty nice, and he knows a lot more Spanish just coming into the MTC than I do, so when we really start practicing Spanish, that will be very helpful.
My P-Day is Saturday and my only class is from 9am to 12, so after that I have the rest of the day to do P-day stuff which I'm excited about just to get a break from the super long days. We've memorized a few things so far such as the missionary purpose and the basic points from lesson 1 and I've been trying to learn some missionary phrases in Spanish. The first day of waking up early was hard, but even three days in I'm already used to it and taking walks around the neighborhood every morning has helped wake me up as well.
I don't have a lot to say in this letter but I can share a few great scriptures I've read . Alma 37:37, Matthew 17:20, Moses, 6:57, 1 Nephi 15: 25. These scriptures are about the basic principles of the gospel such as prayer, faith, repentance, and reading the scriptures and I don't think we need to make the gospel any more complicated than that.
I'll probably have more to say next week because then I'll have done a full 7 day week.
Anyway, see ya.
Jacob
