Adventures in Quma

Now, I say the word "adventures" but the title really should be "walking in Quma".

All of this happened on Sunday so I'm gonna start backwards. So on Sunday I wake up to the news of Utah dismantling USC in the coliseum and this was the first time this football season I was EXTREMELY jealous to not have seen the game (or the Cam Rising flea flicker) because you don't see utah beat USC on the road too often (in fact I think you have to go back to the times of Moses to find the last win) so that news was pretty great. Afterwards, we went to church and it was testimony meeting and my companion bore his testimony and I didn't and felt really awkward, stupid me was just too scared or something. We had a few people show up at church— an older couple named Maria and Santiago. They're super nice. They both accepted baptism dates even Santiago who had a ton of questions. After church, they invite us to their house. They live in this tiny Papelería. Maria made us eggs, chicharrones and salsa verde and it was super good. We taught a lesson and then We found out They aren't actually married by law. I'm convinced literally nobody here is actually married and its always hard for these people to find time to go talk to the judge, so we'll see what happens there.

Then, we went to Quma. Quma is the place I talked about last week with all the houses and apartments on a mountain and after spending a whole day there, its safe to say there are literally thousands of homes. Tons of apartments, and TONS of small neighborhoods all on or around this mountain. We had been there earlier this week for a lesson with a guy named Julio and it was really good. But Sunday, we had a ton of stuff to do there. We started by going to a member meal. It was with a guys named Benito. He's so nice. He's this HUGE guy and He's a big football fan (real football, not the Soccer stuff everyone here loves) and I think he played a little in college. He fed us big plates of meat and quesadillas.

Afterwards, we thought we had go walk to Toscana alta which is the highest point in Qumran and its far, so were walking up this SUPER steep hill for a while and I'm just sweating from just about every god given  body part at this point and my new companion (Elder Gomez, he’s super nice just a bit rule obsessed) told me that we actually needed to be at the bottom of Quma to deliver a book of mormon to someone, so we walked all the way down and a few extra miles. We called the dude (Alejandro) and he said he was about 1 hour from home so we literally just waited. We sat on a curb for a SUPER long time just calling people and contacting people while waiting for this guy to get home. After over an hour of waiting and sitting we tried calling him and he never picked up so we just started wandering around neighborhoods looking for his house but we never found it, and he never called us back so we decided to give it up.

Our next appointment was in Toscana Bajo (still Quma) which was not close to where we were so again, we just started walking  (we only had 100s and the buses won't take those cause its too much so we didn't ride the bus anywhere) we ended up walking a good few more miles before we ended up at our next appointment. Her name is Lety. She lives in an apartment building and we were so dead from walking and then we found out she lives on the very top floor of the building so by the time we say on her couch we were just lazy lumps of flesh. After a nice revival of ice water, we had a super good lesson about the book of mormon.

After the lesson it was about 7:30 and we still had to walk to 1 final appointment. So we walk only about 1 mile this time and this appointment was with a member. My companion had called a random member that week didn't know to see if we could have a family home evening with them. she said yes but it turns out she was a member and her husband wasn't. Her husband (I forget names its quite a problem I have) has 1 leg and huge lumps on his hands. He's nice but he really doesn't believe in our message but I think we might be going back to teach him later this week.

When we were done with the lesson, it was about 9 and we really needed to go home, but we couldn't call an Uber, but luckily I found just enough coins in my pocket to catch a ride home. The problem was a bus never came. We finally see one in the distance and there was NO way we were gonna catch it, but my companion didn't care, he was at a dead spring trying to catch the thing. He was running so fast the jaws of hell themselves could've been after him. Seeing him sprint so fast gave me a bad case of the giggles and of course we didn't catch the bus so we had to call a ward member to pick us up. It was a bit embarrassing but it was really nice. We got home at about 9:40ish and as were on our street I saw something somewhat disturbing.

First I heard it. Someone just screaming at the top of their lungs in pure terror. Then, as we were walking past this house, I look and the curtain on the Window is closed but I can see I person just in the corner just thrashing and screaming. It didn't look like a kid and I got just a good look at the figure to see that I don't think there was anybody around him/her (I think it was a guy) and I know I'm probably wrong about this (in fact there’s no way I'm right) but I could've SWORN this person was not touching the ground. I felt like I should help but somehow my companion was completely oblivious to it. Luckily I saw someone go to the Door to see what was going on and when we were in our house I saw the guy talking to someone at the Door and then leave and I don't think the Police showed up, but man I got a scary feeling (probably just my mind making up stories)

Woof. That was only Sunday. Ill quickly go over the rest of my week. On Monday we got New companions cause mine went home. elder Gomez is a small little guy. He loves to plan so literally our weekly planning took 3 hours and I thought I was gonna spontaneously combust or something. We also had a bunch of lessons in person this week. Its really hard to be on time to places when you have to walk everywhere.

We had exchanges this week which were good. We went to a members house for a meal and the dog tired to bite me and I wanted to drop kick it. The members here are super nice. We had this ham stuff. It was good but she kept warning me how Spicy it was an I have no idea where that came from cause it was not Spicy AT ALL. I literally would probably put it on the same Spice level as cheerios.

Anyway that’s all from me. I'm sure ill forget something huge that happened and forget to put it in. bye

Ps I literally LIVED on the toilet this week. My bowels are gonna have ptsd when I get home.

Pictures. We got a lot cause we needed to take some for the Facebook Page.
