Drunk men with knives
Well it was only one drunk man with one knife but ill get into that (not that impressive of a story really)
Hi.
This week started out extremely slow. On Tuesday we had district counsel as usual and really the only thing I remember from it is getting a bad case of laughter while singing the hymn cause we are BAD singers. We had a good lunch with a member an older couple and they were super nice. After words we went to visit Maria and Santiago. They live in the Papelería and we kind of started helping them get ready to go to the judge and get married. They are so nice and they always give us SO much red cola when we're there (red cola is the off brand Coke everyone drinks here. And yes its just called "red cola" not "cola rojo" or whatever.) After we left we just called random people the rest of the day until nighttime when we got a call from Santiago Saying she fell and shattered her arm and the bone came out. This poor woman has so many problems and now This? She's literally a modern day job.
Wednesday we tried to get a hold of them but we couldn't and they weren't at home. It was SUCH a slow day I felt like between Tuesday and Wednesday I called about 200 people and got about 3 people to answer. Later we were gonna go to Quma but a bus never came so we had to cancel. We brought some pan on the walk home, and normally I'm not a fan of sweet bread but Pan de Muertos is literally so freaking good.
Thursday. Lets see in the morning I killed two flies that had been tormenting my soul all week and It felt so good to finally destroy them. Also we have This tiny little backyard with a locked gate, but I finally found the key so I went back there, and its just gross. Tons of cat crap and weeds and I lifted up this mysterious black mat on the ground and underneath just a hive of thousands of ants and their maggots or whatever so naturally I went inside to find something to kill them with and the only thing we had was a bunch of floor cleaner we never use so I just dumped a whole bunch of that on the little suckers and I actually think it worked. Later that day we went to a member meal. They live in this small part of our area called Canadá. We don't go there that often cause not a ton of people live there but it's so cool cause cause feels like a small lush green Mexican countryside town. Its my favorite part of our area and its crazy to think you can drive to Quma in 15 minutes from it cause this place and Quma are polar opposites. The family with whom we had the meal was super nice. They were kinda crazy but it was fun. She made a family recipe of mole. It was good actually and sometimes I'm not a big fan of mole. It was a mom, son, dad, and grandma there. The grandma only had one leg and I literally feel like I've seen 1000 people without one leg here the doctors here must have quite a large collection of limbs. That night some guy we met in the street named Alejandro came to the church for a lesson. He was nice but he was kinda weird and I don't THINK he was high but I'm not ruling out the possibility of it. Alejandro is a very skinny man. He talks SUPER fast and I really didn't understand much out of his mouth. He was very dirty and spelled like he'd been working on cars all day. We taught him about the book of mormon. It was fine I guess but at the end of the lesson he wanted to say the prayer and ended up Saying one of the memorized catholic prayers and afterwards proceeded to explain the origin of all the prayers he knew. It was interesting.
Friday the zone leaders came to our area for exchanges. I was with elder Wade. He's a good guy and He's also from Utah. We basically spent most of the day walking around the area looking for investigators but the map in the area-book planner is just awful and we didn't find that many people but it was still fun (and a nice break from someone) Later that afternoon we were walking down the street and I saw a very, very intoxicated man. For some reason I decided to keep walking towards him instead of crossing the street and as we got closer to him you could just smell the alcohol he had likely bathed in that morning he kinda bumped into me and I saw he was holding a large butcher knife so I panicked for a second and looked back to make sure this guy wasn't about to plunge the thing into elder Wade. Luckily he didn't but he did kind of push him up against a car and elder Wade had to grab him and push him off. There is quite a few drunk men here. We went after to an investigators house (who the last time we went tried to feed us rice mixed with mayo and ketchup and then when we didn't finish it dumped it on the floor for her cats to eat) because I was with a different companion it ended up actually being a 30 minute lesson which was literally the shortest lesson I've had all transfer.
Saturday was slow during the day. In the evening we went to Quma and taught 2 lessons. We brought a member along and the members love to talk. We taught one investigator and one recent convert. The recent convert had so many question about the Book of Mormon and let me tell you how difficult it is to explain the Law of Moses in Spanish we were there super late and the district leaders and zone leaders were all annoyed (for good reason cause we are NEVER home on time) we ended up getting ahold of Maria and Santiago that night and we found out that Maria will be home this week so that was good.
Sunday we had church and it was ward conference and for some reason we were apart of the choir. And I'm sorry, no one here (including me) can sing so when we were practicing before the meeting started a got the giggles again which seems like a problem I have had during my life in church settings (Jordan and Joe) luckily I didn’t laugh during the actual performance. Later that night, we went to Quma. We had a member meal with the bishop and one of the counselors. As usual we were super late so it was a little awkward at first. After the meal we walked around Quma trying to find people to visit but not a lot of people were home. We ended up visiting a part member family. It was a good visit and they literally have the biggest dog I've ever seen in my life. After that, we went to one more house to teach Jose Luis a lesson (another guy with one leg) we ended up getting him to say the closing prayer which was quite a breakthrough for us with him. Also I had a random thought. If this guy ever accepts a baptism date which I don't know if he will, how the fetch are we supposed to baptize a crippled man in a wheel chair and 3 limbs with many other health problems? I don't know anyway thats another boring week in the life of elder Rivera.
Bye.
P.S. the walrus was Paul
