Tacos de Birria

Well, normally I start these letters skipping Monday cause nothing ever happens on Monday, but this Monday was a little different. Once a transfer we can go anywhere in the mission on P-day. We were gonna go to an area and walk around for Día de Muertos and so in the morning we used he last of our money from the last week to take a combi to the plaza with the atms to get money out for our travels for the day and for the rest of the week. When we arrived at the atms, the line was super long and it turns out that only 1 of the 3 atms was on and when we finally got to it, it turns out it had ran out of money. Also its important to note that my companion had left his cards at the house (classic) so it was just me who had cards. We then went to the bank and everyone who was just at the ATM was lined up at the bank so we (I) waited for a SUPER long time, and when I got to the front desk, they told me that they don't accept US cards. The problem is that my personal and also the mission cards are from the US and the only place we can get out money from is the broken atms and I hope they’re fixed today. After that we had to walk miles home to get my companions cards and go back. He ended up getting a little money from a different bank, and after that, we just went to the church all day.

Tuesday now. Lets see. We had district counsel in the morning and the zone leaders came to it and I’m not gonna lie I was a bit annoying cause literally all anyone cares about in this mission is numbers, literally thats it. Later that night we went to Babylon (Quma) and taught this investigator we have named Lety. She’s one of those people who just accepts everything we tell her, but tonight was the word of wisdom which is always interesting to teach. We had brought some members along and I was SO glad to have them there because they were both converts at one point in life so they had all these experiences and stories and if it was just me and my companion I don't know if we would’ve left having explained it good enough at all (Also the fact that my companion hardly says a word during lessons for some reason)

Wednesday was just a bland old day. We went to Quma taught one family then we went to one legged Joses house and we taught him. He literally will never progress though and that sucks cause hes a nice guy. He just refuses to look for answers for literally anything. That night as we were walking home some guy who I guess is less active stopped us in he street and started pestering us for money and he was pulling all he cards like “You're representatives of Jesus Christ" and all that and then he tried to charm me by speaking english for some reason but literally I had no freaking money I even showed him my wallet. It was annoying.

Thursday was one of those days we were in he church all day making calls and stuff. The best thing that happened that day is we ordered some tacos called Tacos de Birria. There was also some soup to dip the tacos in. And I’m just gonna say right now, I don't know what the crap "Birria" is but literally they were the greatest tacos I had ever eaten in my life. Also while I was calling people I called this one random lady, and I started talking to her and she said that she had actually attended our church, found out we were Mormons, and that she never wanted to talk to us again but the real part she didn’t like about our church was that we wear suits. That really caught me off guard so I started laughing but i think it sounded like I was crying so I’m sure that weird Lady will go to her grave triumphantly thinking she made a missionary cry. Also that night we got a call saying our buddy with one leg was in the hospital for his remaining leg that I'm pretty sure is slowly falling off or something.

Friday In the morning we participated in an English class. It was technically the other elders class so most of the time we were just sitting there watching and it was literally flashback to sitting in school and I really didn’t like that feeling at all. Later that day we went to Quma to go visit José Luis (one leg again) wife or the lady he lives with I don't actually know. She’s a member and she’s SO nice she just has a ton of problems and can’t go to church. She showed us a picture of Jose Luis remaining foot and I really wish she hadn’t. His middle toe was halfway gone and it was like a bloody stump. After we left we did a little contacting to find some people in the area, and even though I’m a missionary it was weird knocking doors. No one answered though.

Saturday morning was an interesting one as well. We go to the church, and every Saturday and Monday, theres a large outdoor market directly outside the gate of the church (tianguis they’re called they’re literally everywhere in Mexico). I’ve mentioned it before, but there’s this drunk guy who I guess works there (I don't actually know if he works there, all I've ever seen him do is sit and drink beer with his buddys) and this guy was the dude who once was yelling at me and another American elder and then also once walked up to me and asked if I could hand him his  vodka bottles that he’d thrown through the gate of the church. Apparently what he had done that morning was he had sworn at the other elders as they were walking in, and instead of just ignoring it, one of the elders (Elder Luis, you wouldn't be surprised if you knew him) decided to swear BACK at the dude, so when we got to the church he was in he middle of receiving quite the lecture from their bishop and some random guy in the ward. Later that day, every time we had to leave I made sure we left out the side door so we wouldn't have to walk past the beer drinking moron. We also ordered those tacos again and they were just as good, but this time we ordered the soup with meat and literally EVERY meat chunk was pure fat and I couldn't eat it (its actually breaking a commandment according to Leviticus 3) and I kept thinking of the time dad choked on a piece of fat when we were eating soup once and I started laughing so hard.

Sunday at church we had 5 investigators show up and attend a baptism (the other elders who have like 10 baptisms a week) so that was good. Also good ‘ol Norma came to bring us lunch and we ate with her on a tiny little desk in the kitchen while the other ward was in session. I'm gonna miss Norma when I have to leave the area. Later that day two ladies were at the church talking to us and they wanted to buy us KFC one of these days but they thought they'd have to buy a ton for a large American like me because according to them "I could at least eat 10 pieces of chicken easy" later we were on the phone and we found ANOTHER investigator with one leg and It turns out he ALSO lives in Quma and his name is José too. That night we ran into a less active and started talking to him. I recognized him but I didn’t know who he was until he started asking us for money and I realized it was the same idiot from the other day and of course I still didn't have money buy that guy loves to pester us. Anyway thats all for today. Bye

Ps: I dig a pigmy by charles hawtrey and he deaf aids
