Crazy Sundays Man
I actually feel like this whole week was somewhat interesting. Some good, some bad, one quite disturbing. but we’ll get into those.
Tuesday was district council and all that stuff. Later that night we taught Jorge and Enriqueta who are great new people we got from references, and then Silvestre and his girlfriend. It turns out he has quite a coffee addiction but he’s willing to try and stop it.
Wednesday sucked. It was totally my fault too. The morning was fine though. Silvestre came over and he helped us fill up our gas so we'd finally have hot water, BUT it turns out we still need batteries for it so we still don't have hot water. We then went to have our interviews with president. After all that we returned to the area, and as we were leaving the church I realized I had accidentally locked our keys in the office in the church so we were literally locked in the church gates and couldn’t leave or open any doors. We tried everything to get them back but we just couldn’t. The worst part is, is that it was completely my fault even though I wanted to blame my companion so bad. We had a ton of problems cause of it. We couldn’t go eat with the members but luckily they came to the church and handed our food to us over the fence. We also had to cancel a bunch of lessons cause we couldn't leave. The lesson I was most disappointed about was Norma. I called her to say we couldn't come and what had happened and she was super nice about it. She told me to make sure I eat something and drink water so I wouldn't feel so bad. She then told me a story about how she had lost a purse with a bunch of money in it and how she prayed that she wouldn't be worried about it and then how the rest of the day she wasn't worried about it. Norma has become my mission grandma and after that call I felt I little better about my stupidity of locking the keys in. We finally got a member to come open the main gate for us, but they didn’t have the keys to the office. We only had 20 pesos on us which is only enough for 1 combi ride to the bishops house who has the key to the office. We had to walk all the way to his house which is about 45-1 hour walking. I had quite the blister on my foot and was about ready to drop dead. We then took a combi to the church, got the keys finally, walked to the house to get more money, took a combi again to the bishops house and then took a taxi home. Quite an exhausting day.
Thursday was really good. We had exchanges and I went with my DL Elder Randall to work in his area. Nothing too exciting happened although when we were walking some lady ran up to us and asked if we could walk to her house with her cause she was afraid her boyfriend would be waiting there for her. I was nervous cause I had no idea what I was gonna do if some deranged man was there waiting to attack, but luckily no one was there and she thanked us and told us that shed be fine cause he doesn't have a key to the house. After that we just went to teach a ton of lessons. Nothing exciting but It was actually pretty fun to just teach a ton of lessons with a good companion. After all that some member in their ward bought us elotes and it was freaking good.
Friday, we taught and english class and I think we bought some bread too (México bread is so legendary). Not an eventful day but I did find out I had to give a talk on Sunday and I started getting all nervous. At night we went to go teach Jorge and Enriqueta again. I really like teaching them the problem is, is that It was at night and I was kinda tired, and in those situations, I really struggle with Spanish. Also we had to plan as a district a freaking skit we were assigned to do in front of the whole mission during the Christmas party on the 22nd, and you could say I'm less then excited about that.
Saturday was a slower day but something Interesting did happen. As you may know, I have quite a bad habit of laughing in situations I shouldn't. In this case, us and the other 2 elders in our district went to go eat at a torta place. We were sitting outside, and some weird dude in fancyish clothes come up to us and he kept like patting us on the shoulder and he introduced himself like 8 times. He then started preaching to us and reciting bible verses. He then leaned in to elder Bahena, who is OBVIOUSLY 100% Mexican, and started speaking english to him cause the guy thought Elder Bahena was American. Elder Bahena responded to him in the driest voice I’d ever heard in my life "soy Mexicano". At that moment, I have no idea why, I literally spit out my Pepsi and started laughing so hard I was crying. I felt bad even though this guy was really weird, but I couldn't stop laughing. It got all the other elders at the table to start laughing too. The guy shook our hands and patted us on the shoulder and then called us weird names. (He called me Elder Goodnight for some reason) and he finally left. That was the most eventful thing on Saturday. Oh yeah we also taught Norma so that was fun. I don't remember exactly what we taught but she was worried I’d trip on my shoelace so she tied my shoe for me.
Sunday, as the title mentions was interesting and a little crazy. We went to church and I gave my talk. After church we we went to Quma to go eat with this old couple and they were seriously the nicest people I had met on my entire mission. They couldn't come to church cause they were trying to fix their water. Apparently a TON of people in Quma and St. Teresa by where we live don't have water and I'm really nervous that will happen to our house and I'll have no clue what to do. After all that we had a temple trip planned and we brought along Jorge and Enriqueta. We had to wait for ever with our investigators and our district for the bus at the plaza by Walmart which is the Loudest, busiest place I've ever been. There was a ton of traffic so we waited almost 50 minutes for the bus to come. Everyone was stressing that we arrive at 2:30 exactly but the bus didn't even arrive until 3:20.
The bus ride to the city was just crazy. The last time we had gone to the Temple as a mission, we took a combi and a back tour and we saw nothing interesting. This time we went right to the outskirts of México city and its so insane. There isn't a place in the world like it. Just 1000s and 1000s of houses on the mountains and TONS of people. It was cool. The also have this public transportation Called "Skycable" our something which is literally just wires 50 feet the air and you can ride a little cablecar for a few miles instead of taking the bus. I cant really describe the city other than how huge and how many people there are. I couldn’t get pictures cause the bus was too dang fast. We then saw something disturbing. We were driving and we saw some cops directing traffic. The I saw the caution tape, then I saw the destroyed motorcycle, then I saw the dead guy. The cops had just pulled his t shirt over his head and thats it. There was no one around him and the cops were acting like it was the most mundane thing they ever had to do. Me and elder Randall were some of the only people on the bus who saw the dead guy and were kinda stunned. Also some other elders were trying to take a picture of the view of the city and they got some weird paranormal activity in it or something. Mexico city is crazy bro.
We got to the visitors center and went on a tour with Jorge and Enriqueta. The visitors center is really cool and I would love go back one day. Then we walked amongst the lights when it was dark again. After the temple we were freaking tired and just dropped in bed at like 930. But yeah theres my eventful week. I don't have a ton o pics this time.
