Transfer nerves
So I started this letter early so I could go clean and pack and all that afterwards. Why? It's cause I'm getting freaking transferred. I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty dang nervous and all anyone told me about my new comp is that he's running for AP. We shall see though. The areas called Melchor Ocampo.
Tuesday, all I can recall happening is district council and then walking a bunch cause we had to walk home to pay the rent. It's freaking HOT here still. Like the 90s during the day level of heat. I also remember we called some reference and she was crying when she answered cause her husband got kidnapped. I didn't even know till after the call cause I didn't know the word for "kidnapping" in Spanish. I felt completely useless in that moment and I don't even remember what I said. I think I prayed or something with her but I have 0 experience with that kinda stuff. We went to Norma’s house after and taught her son. Her sons 18 years old which is weird cause Norma’s old enough to have a grandson that old.
Wednesday. Wednesday all I remember from the morning is that the day previous, I was in bed and had my earplugs in (the comp snores) and so I didn't hear the alarm and got up at 6:50. I went downstairs and my companion thought it was so funny that I got up "so late". On Wednesday morning he got up at 7:30. Later that day we had our mission party in the mission offices while we were waiting for the bus, I got my shoes shined and holy fetch these guys are professionals at it. It was literally insane watching this guy going to town on on shows. The party was really fun. When we got there we had to get flu shots. After that we played some games and it was funny cause all the missionaries were telling me that the games we were playing were the ones that president had confiscated from their houses during house inspections. Afterwards we had a talent show. It was fine I suppose. Most people just danced. Our district was supposed to preform something but we didn't cause no one wanted to. We had lunch after and theres some really fun missionaries in this mission. It's small too. There's 91 (probably more today) so it felt like a zone conference almost. We also did bingo and we decorated cookies. All the people we're going all out for there cookies cause it was a contest and I literally just put four sprinkles on mine to make a dumb looking face and all the elders in my zone voted for it and it won even though the sisters and the mission presidents wife were annoyed. After we watched Charlie Brown and I’m not sure why people like that show. There was like a gift exchange and a devotional and our packages and left. The buses here at night are so crowded and this one we rode was a nightmare. It was the most crowded bus I'd ever been on. There was like people hanging out the door. The packages literally had to go to like random people sitting down and I was afraid they'd get lost. It was not a pleasant experience. We got home and I wanted to wait to open my packages until Christmas but I opened it then cause I knew I'd be getting transferred and I wanted to decide where to put all my stuff. I got some pretty good things though.
Thursday, we had exchanges for part of the day. Me and my buddy elder randall went to Qumran to go give Jose Vega his baptism interview. I was really afraid he'd forget everything we taught him but he didn’t and it was really good. After we went to other one legged Jose’s and ate. It was good but sometimes some of the meat here still has hair from the pig or whatever and it's gross. It also turns out Jose Luis used to work for a drug cartel and had killed multiple people for it. Also he was part of a satan cult for a while and then for 30 years he was some important dudes bodyguard. Quite the life he's got. After, elder randall gave me a Christmas present. It was this metal missionary tag that one of their investigators made. It's so cool and it was less than 100 pesos.
The 24th and 25th weren't the most exciting days cause in out area no one really wants visits from the missionaries. We went to visit Maria and Santiago in the Papelería in the morning and after that we had no choice to go to the church and start calling people cause we had nothing else to Do. After a good few hours of doing nothing, we walked to a members house in Cañada to go eat. We literally ate the best enchiladas I'd ever had in my life. We then stayed at their house for a while and went in the back and called people and had a lesson on the phone. Later, we went to go teach Jorge and Enriqueta. They are super fantastic people. She has a coffee addiction and he has an alcohol problem but there really good people. We had the biggest plot twist of the century though we she told us she just recently remembered she was baptized in our church when she was 10 and I had no idea what do in that moment cause I was totally stunned.
Saturday wasn't Christmas (it didn't feel like it anyway) it was 90 degrees and sunny and we had a Zoom meeting about Facebook work. I was able to talk to the family but only for like 30 minutes.
Sunday began in interesting fashion. We got up at 4:45 to go to the church to fill the baptism font. We arrived before 6 and I guess the alarm’s on a timer so when we opened the door it was too early in the morning I guess and a super loud alarm went off for like 20 minutes. We couldn't turn it off cause we didn't know the code and we called the stake president cause the bishop wouldn't answer and the president called some maintenance guy. It was a bit of an early morning shock. After we filled the font and it wasn't hot again. Afterwards when it was too late, I learned what I was doing wrong, but at that point it was too late. Maybe at the end of my mission I'll return so I can fill up the font with hot water. The baptism of Jose went smoothly actually. Two of us went into the font. Elder Randall and me. Elder Randall kind-of held his back while I did the prayer and we lowered him into the water. Jose was pretty happy after his baptism and I after I confirmed him. Later we went to eat with a member. I have quite the rant about what happened but it's about someone (rhymes with rompanion) so I'll refrain. After we returned to the church and got news about transfers. My comp’s named Elder Alvarez and all anyone told me was the fact that he's running for AP hard. I'm really freaking nervous and I need to pack some more so I'll go. Bye.
