Unpurified Water
Alright, I'm not gonna lie, the week didn't start out fantastic. On Monday, we had a district activity and we played some sports and after, I drank some unpurified water by accident. After we went and ate at Burger King and you can already tell where this is all going.
Anyway, Wednesday. Wednesday was better and I actually felt a lot better. My Last zone had a party for having a certain number of baptisms and we actually held the party at the stake center of my Last area, good old Cincoc 2. That meant we drove though the area, and also we drove past Quma. It had only been like a week and a half since I'd been there but I wasn't sure if I had some nostalgia or a bit of PTSD driving past that place. The party was a lot of fun and it was great to see my buddies from my last district again. There's this one elder Who was there, and we get along fine I suppose but he's 6'4 and extremely cocky about his height, and once the guy told me "not to question the will of the Lord" when I mentioned that 24 months was Long compared to 18 months. That cockiness is the only reason I bring this next part up, but we played some basketball and he wanted to guard me and I guess shut me down. I literally went to town on him and made him regret ever telling me I was "questioning God's Will". He didn't say a Word to me for the rest of the activity. Anyway, the rest of the activity was good too. We played some games and ate some pancakes. We got back to the area about 6ish and almost all of our lessons fell through. That happened a lot this week. We did have one. We went to this guy's house. Neither of us knew anything about him other than that his name was Antonio and that he'd recently had a visit from other elders in the mission. We enter, and he was a courteous enough man, were chatting about his life and stuff, but then we asked him about what he remembered from the last visit from the missionaries and then this Antonio guy Just flipped a switch and told us how Joseph Smith was a false prophet according to the bible and how there's not a true church cause Jesus never established one on the earth. Then he angrily told us he was going to go get his bible. I knew it was about to turn into a good old fashioned bashing session and so I turned to my companion and told him it was all his. I did That for 2 reasons, 1. Cause bashing is a waste of time and 2. It's really because I don't know enough bashing scriptures. The reason I didn't get up and just leave, is cause I was actually quite eager to see a bible bash in person. It wasn't very eventful. My comp used a few scriptures, the guy got mad, and we got up to leave. I told him that he was wasting his time trying to contend with two 19 year olds. He then gave us the most passive aggressive fist bump and pat on the back in the history of mankind, and "thanked" us for coming and to never return again. Quite an interesting Day.
Thursday, again, the lessons all fell. we really couldn't believe what the frick was happening. The main event of that day was the pizza we ate for lunch. The pizza was from a place called "Pizza King" we ate it, and i'm not gonna lie, it was some pretty dang sketchy pizza. Later, after we had done some good old street contacting, we went to the church cause my companion was feeling pretty sick. At one point, I turned to him and asked "have you ever seen a talk from LeGrand Richards?" (a completely normal question if you ask me). In that exact moment I think the pizza finally won a battle inside his stomach. He replied "no" not even realizing what the question was and ran off. I heard the bathroom door swing open, and about a second later, the loudest projectile vomit known to mankind. It was bad. I was in shock and sympathetic me let out a quick chuckle just of how comical it all sounded. I did feel bad though. Apparently it was so violent he got a nosebleed. I wanted to help him clean the bathroom but as I approached the door I started gagging pretty bad so I thought it was better if we only had to clean up one person's vomit instead of two.
Friday, we walked a lot and were trying to visit people. One was a recent convert who wasn't home, and the other was an investigator who wasn't home. For lunch that day we had some steak and longaniza tacos and oh man those things are good. We contacted and answered some facebook messages and all that, but that's about it.
Saturday morning, we visited a recent convert. I feel bad because I don't remember her name, but I'm often stunned by how many people live in houses with partial roofs, floors, and windows and just pure concrete everything. we ate lunch with the bishop and his family and they live in a super fancy house. It was by far they nicest I had entered on my my mission, and I almost feel more comfortable in the houses of people like Joe Vega. Later that day we went to visit a family for a fhe, but they seemed tired, and the whole family wasn't there, so we decided to come back the next week. we went to go visit someone we’re teaching (I've still never met him so I don't know anything about him) but in classic fashion, he wasn't there. We ran into a nice older woman who was a member and she gave us a large bag of fruit. Mexican fruit is fantastic by the way. I mentioned briefly the dog who always follows us named Duke. Duke is a large brown dog and he’s crazy. (Can dogs have mental illness?) He follows us for miles and if you don't throw him a rock to chew on he gets angry and barks extremely loud. The only problem with Duke is that for some reason the neighborhood dogs HATE him. They bark at him and sometimes attack him and since duke stays so close to us it sometimes feels like these dogs are gonna take us down with Duke.
We got some good rain that evening though.
Sunday we had to speak. I was nervous, but not too nervous cause since Im in a new area, I gave the exact same talk I gave like 3 weeks ago in my other ward. we had 3 investigators show up. Theres a recent convert who is completely blind, so we have to guide him around. After the meeting I guided him out, but I have no experience with leading blind people so the guy kept accidentally hitting doors and stuff. Later that day we had a family home evening. The family’s name is Rivera and so that was cool. They gave us some food from Oaxaca. It was some hot chocolate and these amazing quesadilla things called Tlayudas and oh my those are good. we played some games with them and then they gave us a bunch of references. It was pretty great. Anyway thats my week. I hope we have lessons this coming week. see ya.
P.S. Don't worry you wont have to hear any more from me until the following monday
