Hi. It's me again. I don't have an extreme amount to say this week but here I am
Let’s see. Tuesday. In the morning we went over to talk to Emma, the old lady who sells juice. She's nice enough. She listened to a brief message about the Plan of Salvation and then she gave us free juice, and her orange juice is super good. Then we went to visit Enrique and Miriam who sell food from a cart close by. They're really close to baptism and it's now just questions of getting married and stuff (the classic). They also gave us free tacos, so those are the perks of knowing people who sell food/drinks. Then we taught a video lesson with Alvaro. He's a good guy, but he has his own interpretations and really knows the Bible. We kinda get the feeling he's just one of those who likes to talk about religion. He had a baptism date but we removed it cause he said if he ever wants to get Baptized, he will tell us. We later went to go eat with a convert who got Baptized like a week before the church shut down for covid so she hasn't been to the church for a couple years. Poor woman. She's sooo nice, but the level of knowledge she has of the church is almost the level of a new investigator. We said a prayer and she crossed her heart after and she thought the word of wisdom was a suggestion not a commandment so she's been drinking coffee ever since. I don't even think she's picked up the Book of Mormon in two years. She's super nice though so we'll keep working with her. Also that day we were contacting in the street and the guy who prays in dead languages came up to us and said a prayer for us and then gave us a bag of fruit and left. We also contacted a guy named Rafael but he said we can also call him Margarito (who knows why) he was a tad bit crazy but he was actually really nice and he gave us his phone number.
Wednesday was soo hot. We went to eat with a lady who is famous for giving WAY to much to eat. We went to her house and her roof is made of some material that absorbs heat a ton so it was LITERALLY like over 100 degrees. She made a huge turkey (the first turkey I've eaten in Mexico) and a ton of macaroni. We were literally dying after and almost physically could not move and then walk in the 500 degree heat after. We went to visit some lady who is a member but some of her family's not and then bought ice cold water lest we drop dead on the streets of Ecatapec, Mexico. Later our boy Sergio the 30 year old secretary came to the church to accompany us to visit less actives. I literally cannot believe that this ward has over 900 inactives. Sergio knows where everyone and their mom lives so we visited some people. I don't remember there names but it was a family and they were nice.
Thursday was zone Conference. I was nervous cause the asked to play the piano. Who the crap knows why. The test of the zone conference was fine you could say, but I've always been convinced that the information they give us in zone conference in like 6 hours could be condensed to about 30 minutes. But anyway like I said zone conference was alright. Afterwards we didn't have any lessons so we left to contact in the street. That's something our mission is pushing us to do a lot more and I honestly hadn't really contacted in the street for the first 6 months of my mission. We met a few people, two gave us phone numbers so that was cool. Then we walked all the back in San Rafael to go visit a recent convert named Elsy. She's a woman of about 60 maybe. She has a ton of problems and she’s sick and has a huge pain in her leg and LOVES to talk, so we listened to her for a while and then gave her a blessing.
Friday and Saturday were a lot slower days, the rain has started to arrive again though and even though it's super hot during the day, when the rain comes in it feels a lot better. On Friday we talked talked Miguel on the phone. He's an investigator we still havent met in person. He's addicted to alcohol so He's looking for a rehab center or something. My companion stood up during the lesson and slammed his head on a shelf we were sitting super hard, and I felt super bad cause I started laughing. I tried to calm myself cause we were gonna invite him to be baptized. The invitation wasn't very effective after that, but he said yes. On Saturday, the other ward had an activity so there was 4 of us missionaries at the church. I was talking to my buddy Elder Weidner and some guy pulled us aside and asked us for a blessing so we went into an empty classroom to give him one. He said his knee hurts and he's been stressed out and he's been having really bad dreams. So we gave him the blessing. After we were talking to him and he commented he had played American football his whole life. He was a very large guy. The craziest thing was is that he told us he played professional football her in Mexico too. He played one year as the oldest player on the team. He played defensive lineman at age 46!
So on Sunday we went to church early cause the ward correlation is at 10 and the church starts at 12. So after the correlation we had an hour before church started, so we went to go visit some people close by to see if they would come to church. They weren't home so we started walking back to the church. On the walk back we were walking behind some guy in a blue jersey I had the thought that I should go contact him so I did a speed walk to catch up to him and started talking. It turns out he's seen missionaries before and his aunt or someones a member and he gave us his address and said we could visit him tomorrow (So today I guess). We got back to church and we were waiting for our investigators to show up. Enrique and Miriam obviously came and we were waiting for someone else to show up and all of a sudden our buddy Rafael (or Margarito if you will), the somewhat weird but really nice guy randomly walked in. It was so cool to see cause street contacts don't often come to church. After we gave him a Book of Mormon and said we’d pass by with him on Wednesday. After church we walked really far to go eat with a family. It was a nice family and we ate lasagna. Lasagna is really good but its such a heavy food so walking back after wasn't fantastic. After we had to meet the representatives from the young single adult program in the ward to go visit some ysa inactives. Me, my companion, and Sergio who came with us were not too excited to do that but we went anyway. We visited two families. The first one was cool and then we went to visit a second one. They have two 12 year old daughters who aren’t baptized so that called the attention of me and my companion, but the family has a son who’s like 26 and he's "a member" but the whole time he was like yelling and being super loud about how much he likes coffee and drinking alcohol and wine. The ysa representatives thought he was soo funnny and were laughing so much, but me and my comp were just sitting there somewhat uncomfortably and we didn't necessarily find an extremely loud 26 year old yelling about how he doesn't keep the commandments that funny. Anyway
That was my week bye
