A Day [Week] in the Life
Hello so I'm here again. Without too many emails still so maybe some of you are reading it on Facebook.
This week was quite normal, except for one dramatic event that happened on Monday night. We were leaving the church after P-day. And we have someone where teaching named Magaly, who didn't have anywhere to live and was kicked out of her house Sunday night, the bishop tried to help her but she didn't have her official documents so she had to leave all her stuff in a room at the church and sleep with a member a few nights. Part of the stuff that she had to leave at the church was her dog. (outside obviously). As we were leaving the church the cute dog comes up to us. As we were entering the church again it started chasing us. We ran because we knew the dog was gonna try to enter the building. Running was quite a mistake and I don't know what changed in this innocent dogs attitude but it went into attack mode. The first thing it did was jump up on me to attack. It clamped its jaws on my stomach and wouldn't let go. The adrenaline kicked in pretty good. I didn't feel the pain at all and the only thought that came to mind was get this dog off me. I punched it a bunch of times and after some good bites it got off. Then I kicked it in the face a whole bunch of times cause it started chasing me again. I was able to get into the church. We called some people and told them. The problem was my companion was outside still and the dog attacked him too. Once we were safely inside we checked our wounds. The dog left us with some pretty good lacerations. Luckily it didn't destroy clothing too bad and we got some medical advice and the wounds on the mend. But yeah that stark introduction to the week was the most interesting thing that happened this week.
So Tuesday. District council and all that. Afterwards I really don't remember what we did. I usually use my journal to aid me in writing my letter but right now I don’t have it. (This one may be a short one) I believe we taught Rafael. He's a guy we met in the street. Apparently someone beat him up and now he's all sad in his house. I'll go more into detail about that guy in a sec. We also taught Magaly again. She's progressing pretty fast to a baptism. We found her like 3 weeks ago. That's what I remember from Tuesday.
Wednesday. In the morning we went to see Enrique and Miriam. They could've been baptized long ago but they still havent checked about their marriage/divorce situation so that's in pending. We think this month they'll be able to. But who knows. They're super nice. The always give us free food from their stand even though we refuse or at least try to pay. In the afternoon we taught a lady names Maribel. She has an abusive husband so she can only talk to us on the phone and only in certain parts of the day. We really don't know her too well though. She's from Facebook and she lives in a different area I think.
Thursday we taught this guy named Alvaro. He's nice but I'm not sure why we keep teaching him. He's just someone who likes to discuss the Bible. He has almost all the lessons and we haven't seen any progress. Plus he likes to talk for 4 hours. We should probably stop teaching him. Enrique and Miriam gave us lunch that day. We ate more tacos from their stand. Later we went to visit Jose Antonio. He's a super nice inactive guy. He has to walk with two canes. He's a larger bald man. He lives by himself and his friend just died. He's a super pleasant dude though.
Friday we taught a guy named Enrique. We started teaching the plan of salvation. That lessons always been the hardest for me to teach for some reason but when you get into it, people always are very interested. Especially when they know someone who's died recently.
Saturday was "Día de Niños" which is literally just kid day. I'm not sure the point of it. We saw a lot of catholics celebrating it. At the church they had a bunch of activities too. Saturday was just a big waste of time. I'm gonna be completely honest with everyone. We've wasted a lot of time this transfer and this new transfer is gonna have to be a lot different. We were able to have a lesson with Rafael. The dude I mentioned earlier. The guy who got beat up. He was really weird on the call. He started talking about how he used to bite his kids and his brother and his sister all the time. Then he started getting mad and saying repentance doesn't exist and just ranting forever. I interrupted and told him we didn't have time in the moment but we'd love to help him of he came to church. He got all mad and hung up the phone. Poor man. We have this ward sports activity that we're always invited too because apparently theirs a ton of inactives we can meet. It doesn't work and it is a waste of time.
Sunday we had church. I had been trying to get to know more members and it worked pretty well. Wonders come if you just open your mouth to talk to someone and get to know them. After we were able to go to the Temple with the Stake and our investigators. We took Magaly and this lady Teresa who's basically been a member for years but isn't baptized cause she lives with her "husband" who isn't divorced. This is the 4th temple trip I've made on the mission but it's always a great place to go. The visitors center there is really cool. We got transfer news and I'm staying another transfer her with my companion. I'm glad I'm staying here but another transfer as Jr comp still to a sack of potatoes is gonna be hard. I'm sorry if this letter has a bit a frustrated vibe to it. I just realize how much potential this area has that we haven't been able to achieve yet. Anyways sorry about the short letter. I'll be back next week.
