Going to School

Afternoon,

So Tuesday. There was zone conference. Our area being as far as it is, we got up at 6, left the house before 7, just to make sure we got to the conference at 9:45. The conference was alright, but they gave us a full box of Books of Mormon, piled on top were 2 bibles, a triple, and a mound of pamphlets. I mean, it's good to have supplies and all but it was virtually the heaviest box known to man. The bus to our area leaves us a bit of a walk from our house and carrying that box was a nightmare. Me and my companion had to take turns carrying the box up the street and to the house. We arrived and put the box on the floor, our arms having been turned to jelly. I believe the box just laid on the floor for a day or too. We left that evening to visit a guy named Antonio. We called the ward mission leader, Lalo, to come with us. When he pulled up in his car he had a former missionary in his front seat who had served in the mission. It was really weird to see. We got to the lesson early and the guy Antonio wasn't home, so we went to go knock some doors and stuff. As we were walking the ex-missionary guy pulled out his phone and called our former  mission presidents wife on messenger for video call. She answered and was obviously with the old president (Gary) Severson. It was honestly a bit weird to see them again and the video call was a bit much in my opinion. I feel like that whole day was kinda random to be honest. We went with Antonio and his wife made us enchiladas. He's really cool but he's got quite the sailors mouth. He really has interest in talking about Jesus though.

Wednesday, we had exchanges. Elder Sanchez and Sayavedra came to Jilotepec. My comp was a bit sick of the stomach (we believe from the enchiladas eaten the day before) but I went with my former comp, Elder Sanchez. Elder Sanchez has gotten to be one of my good friends from the mission. We went out to visit Vanessa and her grandmother. Vanessa is still not retaining the information we give a ton (although now she can tell us what baptism is and this weekend she said she read a tiny part from the book of mormon) and the zone leaders are putting pressure for us to just baptize her and its a little annoying. We also visited Moroni and his family.

Thursday we talked to our friend Salvador. He's the security guard outside the bank (also the church cause the second floor is the church) he's nice. He demanded once to know why we “didn't believe” In the Virgin and why we say Joseph Smith is a prophet if he “never prophesied anything” we've been able to answer his questions. He's a pretty nice guy though.

Friday we had a cool opportunity in the morning. So basically this Wednesday, we're gonna have the opportunity to give a chat in a university auditorium in front of 80 students. We went to meet the teacher who was helping set up the activity and we told her basically what we were gonna do. We toured the auditorium and stuff. I'm excited and pretty nervous for this activity. There's not many times where missionaries are asked to give a University lecture. We have some help from some members and the legendary thing is that the mission president as well is gonna come and help us with the presentation. He was a Georgetown University professor, so he was pretty excited to come with us. He literally moved interviews to be able to come.

Saturday we were gonna have an English class, but no one came. We were able to have a good lesson with Vanessa and Jose. Jose is a member, his wife, Vanessa is not. I was super shocked cause Vanessa started crying during the lesson. It was a pretty good chat.

Sunday was stake conference. Stake conference is always good. The mission president gave a really good talk. The first hour of the conference was really good, but the second hour, I'm not gonna lie I was struggling to sit still in my seat. Vanessa and her grandma were there though so that's cool. That night we had a phone call with Isidro. He's a guy, seemingly convinced the Bible is proving the catholic church is correct. He sites Bible verses at random that really don't have anything to do with the subject at hand. He's a respectful guy at least, but all the things we tell him go in one ear, and out the other. The call was almost an hour and a half and I felt as if it was 5. We’ll give Isidro at least one more chance though. He said he was gonna read the Book of Mormon, and he's a nice guy so I suppose I can find one last string of patience for the lad. (He's not much of a lad, he's probably in his 40s or 50s but) that was basically the week though. This week should be pretty interesting with this university presentation we’re gonna give.

See ya!

I don't have pics from the week save these ones from a really cool hike we did this morning.
