Letter
It's been a while hasn't it? A lot has changed since I last wrote. I'm in an area called San Cristobal, it's kinda the heart of Ecatapec. It sure is different than my last area. My companion’s named Elder Gurr. He's from Arizona. I've already got 3 weeks here, but it's the first time I've written a note from here.
Tuesday was hot. We went to district council using Mexibus. Mexibus is a bus service, that has its own lanes in the street and stations every few blocks. It's basically like a train, but in the form of a bus I suppose. The doors close super fast and it's often very crowded, and I'm sure one of these days, my comp will get off, and the doors will close leaving me alone to get of at the next station (I suppose at that point I could go wherever I wanted to) like I mentioned that day was just plain old hot. The heat makes everything so much more tedious. The day feels longer and it just seems a little more miserable (if I must be quite honest) and there's a lot of hills to climb here. We met a woman named Angelica in the Elders Quorum President’s house and she was nice. I remember being quite grateful that night to be able to lay down and rest a while though.
On Wednesday, it was just as hot, but it was a bit better of a day. We had visited some less actives with the Elders Quorum President and after, we were asked to go see a guy in the hospital. He's a member from a different ward, but the hospital is in our area. We had tried to go before, but the hospital rules here are SO strict, that it would be impossible for me and my companion to both enter. Also the visit hours are only from 4 to 5 pm. The guy was sending us messages from his phone, but the hospital rules say the patients can't even have phones so he had to secretly send us messages. We brought a member with us, and the member went inside and gave the guy a blessing. We just waited outside the hospital for a little while. That night, we walked up a very large steep hill in a part of our area called Vista Hermosa. We were gonna visit Elvira and Juan. Two people who were already in teaching when I got here, very close to baptism. They’ve had a ton of changes and miracles in there life since they met the missionaries and I just got here in the aftermath of all that. The only thing is, they're not married. Shocker no? They weren't home, so we climbed all the way down the hill, and as we got to the very bottom, Elivra called saying they actually WERE home, so we climbed back up the hill. It was a good lesson. We gave Elvira a blessing because she said she had a dream where there was a large black shadow on top of her in her bed, and in the dream, she reached her hand out of the covers to turn on the light and she felt a horse hoof like hand with large talons pinning her down. After the blessing she seemed very happy.
Thursday. We climbed some hills (not a new activity) and we taught a girl named Sofie who's family are all members and she's gonna get baptized on Saturday. Also, a less active lady contacted us and wanted us to come give her sister a blessing. We went to her house and realized that the sister of this lady was super depressed and had no will to live. We gave her a blessing and she seemed to be a bit better.
Friday night we taught this guy named Miguel. He's an older man. He's super cool. He has more interest in reading the book of Mormon than ANYONE I've ever taught before. He loves reading it and he's a fun guy to teach. We went to go see Elvira and Juan and after that lesson it was pouring super hard so we were sprinting down the hill in the rain. It was pretty fun.
On Saturday morning we helped clean the church and we ate Elotes. It's the corn on the stick. We ate tortas, and then we ate with some less active members. At night we went over to the depressed lady's house, who now didn't seem so depressed. She and her husband and the rest of her family are actually extremely kind, and they gave us more food. We ate a ton that day.
Sunday we had some people show up at church. One guy named axel who had come up to us the streets. He left early but we were able to give him a book of Mormon before he left. Also a family that night invited us to help them make their ofrenda for day of the dead. It was cool and they fed us as well.
This morning we climbed a large hill in our area to a large cross. It was pretty cool. A member took us up.
Anyway that's all from me.
Bye!
