Sing We Now at Parting

Well. I'm saying bye to Jilotepec today. This'll be a quick note. I'm going to San Cristobal, an area super far south in the mission (like the most south, possibly) in good old Ecatepec. My new companion is name Elder Gurr, he's a new missionary just finishing his training. He's from the US. I'm not sure what part (Arizona, perhaps?) Anyway this is a bit of what happened this week:

This Tuesday, our Mission President gave us permission go run in the race at the University instead of going to district council (ha!) The mission president wanted us to follow up with the people we had met at the presentation, and meet some more people. The race though was 8 kilometers (5 miles I think). Now, I've never been a runner, and that first bit of the race, with a crippling ache in my side, I asked myself why in the world we just didn't go to district council instead. It ended up being fine, and out of a group of hundreds of runners, at least I didn't finish last. We were able to meet some good people too. That night, some of our buddies from the area (non-members) Shadi and Salvador, Invited us to eat some Kebab. Shadi is an Arabic speaking guy from Palestine, and he's super funny. He’s muslim I believe and owns a coffee shop. Salvador is a teacher and he's super nice. Salvador took us to eat at the house of his late grandparents. It was a cool house and we were told it's about 100 years old. The kebab Shadi made was so freaking good. It was funny and a bit awkward, cause Salvador asked me to offer a prayer on the food, and afterwards a realized Shadi was filming us and himself as I said the prayer. I suppose he'd never seen that before. It was super fun to be with those guys. The only problem is that we got home super late to our house.

We had some exchanges in Tepeji as well. The new guy elder Sayavedra has seemed to progressed to the point to where at least he's not depressed here. He's a funny kid.

On Saturday we had Vanessa's baptism. Almost no one showed up, but it was a good service in my opinion. Vanessa and her grandma were pretty happy afterwards.

Sunday was church. Church is always good, but I'd be lying to tell you it's sometimes a battle to keep ones eyes opened in elders quorum. At night I was able to say goodbye to Carlos, his dad (also Carlos), and Diana. I wish I would've written about them more. They were some of my favorite people I've met here in Mexico. They're super hilarious. Last night, Carlos (the dad) was making me laugh so hard, tears almost came out. I hope Diana gets baptized one day. Anyway, I said it'd be a quick one. Most of the pictures'll be up on Facebook I assume. Anyway this house is FREEZING, and I need to finish packing.
