Some Quick Jots
Well I'm here again. Let me tell a little about my week.
On Wednesday we had our University presentation. We got there early with some of 'the brethren' from the branch. Our Mission President got there soon after. We set everything up, and the seats started fill up with students. On stage they set up a table for me and my companion and President and his wife. I was nervous, but not trembling in my boots like I honestly thought it was gonna be. “Hermano Adan” gave the first part of the presentation. That was the worst part. Not because his part in the presentation was bad at all, but because it was just sitting and anticipating me and my comps turn to speak. He finally finished and it was our turn to talk. We had a presentation and I was genuinely surprised that I was able to speak and express most of the ideas I wanted to, which I feel like is hard when ones nervous (which I was). I felt a lot more comfortable up there than I thought I would. If you would've told me beforehand, that on my mission I'd have to give a presentation at a university in front of 80+ people, I likely wouldn't have even left. It was a cool experience. My and my companion talked about serving, sharing, and inviting, and talked about our beliefs. I talked about the restoration, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and very briefly on laws and ordinances. Then the mission president got up to speak. He kinda just went off. He gave a brief presentation, and answered the questions. There was some pretty tough ones. A lot about marriage and homosexuality in the church and president answered all of them. Even a question that someone asked "what's your least favorite thing about your religion?" After the presentation, they gave us certificates for having participated, which was cool, and not something I expected and we took a bunch of photos with the students. They gave us a large basket of fruit as well, and invited us to an 8 kilometer race that they're doing this week. 3 people also wrote their names and Info so that we could contact them and learn more. It was a pretty cool activity.
On Thursday, we went to go see Vanessa. Sigh. I suppose she's slowly progressing, but my goodness I don't understand how someone can not retain at least A LITTLE bit of what we teach. I remember Jose Vega, the one legged man from my first area was like that, so I suppose it can be done. It just requires patience. Vanessa's baptism date is for this Saturday. The only trick is for her to be able to understand the baptism interview. On Friday we went to see a recent convert named Joel, in the area. It was by a part of the area that I'd never been to before called Palos Altos. It was such a cool part of the area and Joel lived in a house on top of a hill looking over a huge green part of the area. It was really cool.
Saturday was a pretty good day. Conference was on, and the Utes won. Elder Uchtdorf’s talk was awesome. My favorite session was the Saturday morning one, and the Sunday afternoon one (which is funny cause I feel like I've sometimes considered the Sunday afternoon to be the most boring, if I'm being honest). The announcement of a Temple in Tula was so awesome. When me and my comp heard it, we both started freaking. I think the whole mission did. It's also cool cause Tula’s literally in the zone. We were just there on Tuesday for our interviews with president and district council.
Anyways. That should be all for today. See ya!
