México shortened P-day

Yeah, so let me explain the title. Today P-days gonna be 2 hours shorter. Not because of transfers (although transfers are today, but we were not affected by them), but because of Mexico vs. Argentina in the world cup. Yes. Our mission president allowed the mission to watch the match on the terms that we'd shorten p-day by two hours. My companion Elder Soto, is quite the soccer fan, so we watched it. Basically what proceeded after a scoreless first half, was Argentina blowing it open 2-0, making it pretty impossible for Mexico to do anything. Im gonna be honest. I’m sadder that I have to finish my P-day at 4 today instead of 6, then I am the soccer game. Anyway, the letter may be a bit brief.

On Tuesday, we had District Council. Nothing mind boggling to announce there. We taught our friend Axel after. Nice guy. He’s 22 years old and a few weeks back he’d approached us on his bike and asked us to talk with him. Axel is a little...different, I suppose you could say, but he’s a funny guy and his baptism date is for this Saturday and we hope to arrive to it without problems. We taught Armando and his wife. He’s not a member, his wife is but has years inactive. His wife has severe bouts of anxiety and depression, but they are a very nice family. At the end of the day, we went with Celso. He’s the former alcoholic, who I mentioned a few weeks back. His transformation was so cool to see, and he’s extremely nice and humble, its just that he’s not too excited about coming to church. Oh well.

On Wednesday, we had exchanges. I was with Elder Barcelata. He’s from Cancun. He’s a nice guy. We visited Axel again, made a bunch of calls, visited a 20 year old kid we'd met a few weeks ago named Brandon. He was a missionary I suppose you could say, for the 'Iglesia Universal' for a while and he knows well the bible. He’s not part of the church anymore and we’ve been teaching him. Afterwards we met his mom and we talked to her for a while. She’s really worried for her son, cause he’s gotten into some problems in the past, but Brandon’s a nice guy, and on Sunday he’s gonna accompany us to the Visitors Center in the temple. We also went to go see Elivira, she and Juan were gonna get baptized a while ago, but still aren’t married, so theres that.

Thursday, we met a cool guy in an Uber, and at night we took Axel to an institute class, it was the first institute class I’d ever been to. It was a good class though. It was about 'the divine gift of forgiveness' Axel liked the class.

Friday we had exchanges again. I was with Elder Dzul (pronounced Sool) also from Cancun. Funny guy. We passed a 'Farmacia Similar' which are pharmacies that are extremely common here. The mascot is Dr. Simi which is just a cartoony balding doctor guy. There was someone dressed up in a Dr. Simi costume as we walked passed, and Elder Dzul got super excited and made me take a picture with Dr. Simi. He explained its somewhat rare to see someone dressed up as Dr. Simi and he always wanted to see him while with a gringo comp so that he could take a picture. He said if you're a gringo and you come to Mexico without taking a picture with Dr. Simi, you didn't come to Mexico. So I suppose 17 months after initially starting the mission, I've finally arrived to Mexico, as I safely have a picture of me and Dr. Simi in my possession. Anyway, unneeded details there. The rest of the day was tough. We only had one lesson at the end when we went to go talk to Brandon’s mom.

Saturday was another tough day. (The week didn’t necessarily end fantastic) at the end of it though we went to stake conference, and area 70 spoke named Elder Reynoso. He gave a good sermon, but my comp didn’t seem to really like the guy. Our mission president was there, and we asked him about the transfers, and he told us we’d be staying the same. Axel came with us to the conference. It was a participative conference, and Axel participated, which is fine, but at one point while addressing the stake president himself, he said "Sorry for the word Im about to use in front of everyone..." in that moment my face went red and I audibly said the word "No" thinking he was gonna blurt out a swear word in front of the entire congregation, but luckily he didn't. Anyways. That night we got a VERY exciting notice from our mission president saying that this 10th of december (2 weeks ish) were gonna have a special conference with none other then Elder M. Russell Ballard and Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the 12 Apostles. That news shocked me completely. To think that two special witnesses of Jesus Christ are gonna visit us in literally 2 weeks time. Its exciting and even nerve racking to think about. Anyways on that exciting note, I close. Goodbye!!
